Ingredients for oven-baked potatoes

    1. 1 kg medium-sized potatoes

    3. 3 garlic cloves, minced
    4. 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
    5. Salt and pepper, to taste
Step-by-step oven-baked potatoes recipe
Step 1. Prepare the potatoes

Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Slice the potatoes thinly, but make sure not to cut all the way through — the slices should remain connected at the base. This accordion-like technique ensures a crispy exterior and a tender interior.

Step 2. Arrange in the pan

Grease a stainless steel pan lightly with a bit of butter. Arrange the potatoes snugly in the pan, cut side up, so the entire base is covered.

Step 3. Infuse with flavour

Brush the melted butter generously over the tops of the potatoes. Sprinkle the minced garlic and finely chopped rosemary evenly across, ensuring each potato gets a touch of seasoning. Don’t forget a good pinch of salt and pepper.

Step 4. Bake to perfection

Place the pan in the preheated oven and roast for 40-50 minutes. Check the potatoes halfway through to baste them with any butter pooling at the bottom of the pan. The potatoes are ready when they are golden-brown and crispy on the edges.

Step 5. Serve and enjoy

Serve straight from the pan for a rustic presentation. These potatoes pair beautifully with roasted meats, grilled fish, or even a fresh salad.

Tips for the perfect oven-baked potatoes

  1. Uniform slicing: use a pair of chopsticks placed on either side of the potato while slicing to prevent cutting all the way through.
  2. Pan selection: a stainless steel pan is ideal for achieving a crisp base, but a cast iron skillet also works wonderfully.
  3. Flavour twist: add a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese during the last 10 minutes of baking for an extra savoury touch.
